Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
BCS Shines at the Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza
Boorowa Central School’s Agricultural Show Team proudly represented our school at the 2025 Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza in Scone, one of NSW’s largest and most competitive youth cattle events. With more than 50 schools, 120 exhibitors and 750 students taking part, the event showcased the very best of agricultural education across the state.
A major highlight was the team’s achievement in the Light Middleweight Steer division, where our steer Duke, prepared and led by the students, was crowned Champion Light Middleweight Steer. This incredible result reflects months of commitment, teamwork and hands-on learning, and demonstrates the strength of our school’s growing agricultural program.
The success at Beef Bonanza 2025 highlights the exciting opportunities available in agriculture at Boorowa Central School.
Touch Football
Over the past decade, Boorowa Central School has built a proud and highly successful legacy in Touch Football, cementing its reputation as one of the strongest small schools in the state. Our Opens Boys team has been particularly dominant, winning the NSW State Central Schools Championship four times—2018, 2022, 2023, and 2024—including an incredible three-in-a-row streak.
Our Opens Girls and Under 16s Boys teams have also consistently performed at an elite level, earning multiple silver medals across this period. In 2024, the Opens Girls narrowly missed the championship title, falling heartbreakingly short by a single try on countback. Meanwhile, our Under 16s Girls team reached the pinnacle of success last year, claiming a well-deserved gold medal.
This ongoing success is a testament to the dedication and expertise behind our Touch Football program, led by Andrew Corcoran, Jess Bromfield, and Ingrid Corcoran. Their commitment to developing skills, teamwork, and strong sporting values has helped create a program our school community is incredibly proud of.
Boorowa Central School continues to shine on the state stage, and we look forward to many more years of achievement in Touch Football.
ADF Work Experience Excursion
Boorowa Central School students from Years 9–11 experienced life in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Staying in military accommodation and dining alongside serving members, students visited HMAS Albatross in Nowra, HMAS Creswell at Jervis Bay, and HMAS Penguin in Sydney.
They participated in a range of engaging activities, including firefighting training at the School of Survivability and Ship’s Safety, exploring Navy aircraft at the Fleet Air Arm Museum, and trying a VR parachuting simulator. Students also spoke with several serving members, including Boatswain’s Mates, who discussed ship operations and supervised the handling of unloaded weapons, as well as Naval Officers, who explained how oceanography and meteorology support ship logistics.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program
At Boorowa Central School, we are proud to deliver the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, giving our students hands-on learning experiences that inspire healthy living, teamwork and confidence.
Through regular gardening and cooking sessions, students grow seasonal produce, learn practical kitchen skills, and discover the joy of preparing fresh, delicious meals together. The program encourages children to explore new flavours, understand where food comes from, and build lifelong healthy habits.
Guided by our dedicated staff and supported by our wonderful school community, the Kitchen Garden Program has become a cherished part of learning at BCS—connecting students to the garden, the kitchen, and each other.
Southern Stars
Our school proudly participates in Southern Stars each year, offering this incredible opportunity to our Stage 3 and high school students. Southern Stars is a prestigious four-day performing arts experience held in Wollongong, where students come together to celebrate music, dance, and creativity.
In the lead-up to the event, students engage in rehearsals to prepare for Mass Items, leading to spectacular performances that showcase their hard work and talent. In 2025, our students had the privilege of performing in both the Mass Dance and Mass Choir, creating memories that last a lifetime.
Southern Stars is an outstanding opportunity for students to develop their performing arts skills, collaborate with peers, and experience the excitement of performing on a professional stage.
Celebrating 155 Years of Boorowa Central School
In 2025, Boorowa Central School proudly marked 155 years of providing quality education to our community. To celebrate this incredible milestone, the school hosted a series of events that brought together former students, staff, families and friends.
Hundreds of visitors joined us for our Open School, where they explored classroom displays, visited heritage points around the grounds, browsed an extensive memorabilia collection and enjoyed reconnecting with familiar faces. A special ceremony in the Hall recognised the school’s long history, featuring guest speakers and the ceremonial opening of our new Commemorative Wall.
The celebrations continued into the evening with a Gala event attended by 350 guests, followed by a relaxed BBQ brunch in the park the next morning.
We extend our sincere thanks to the organising committee, school staff, grounds team, community supporters and volunteers who helped make the 155-year celebration such a memorable and meaningful occasion.
